Poster Library Outstanding Success |
The newly instigated poster library has recently seen the arrival of its 50th poster (and counting). The idea for the poster storage facility was conceived by postdoctoral fellow Dr Jon Cornwall, who approached Anatomy Museum Curator Mr Chris Smith to see whether the concept could be transformed into reality. ‘I thought that there was likely to be a number of posters sitting around in offices collecting dust, and that somehow there must be a way to make use of these as a departmental resource,’ said Jon. Together, Jon and Chris have developed the project.
‘The response of the department has been fantastic, with big bundles of posters arriving en-masse over the past few weeks. Given we only started collecting posters a short time ago, the collection so far has been above our expectations,’ said Chris. The prototype poster-hanger (poster storage device) was built by Jon, and such has been the success of the facility that a second poster hanger is now being built to store the large number of posters. Details about each poster including author’s names, year of production and conference are recorded on a spreadsheet, with a photograph of the poster also taken if an existing PDF doesn’t already exist. All of these details and recordings will be made available on the departmental intranet so that all departmental staff and postgraduate students have the opportunity to access details about the posters. The posters will also be available in storage within the Anatomy Museum so that people can view them if required. Needless to say, if anyone has any old conference posters needing a home, their donation to the poster museum would be greatly appreciated! |
