The research goal of the Department is to produce excellent biomedical research that is recognised nationally and internationally by:

  1. Promoting a research culture which encourages excellence in research.
  2. Providing an optimal physical environment for research.
  3. Providing the necessary infrastructure for high quality research.
  4. Promoting the strategic development of research capacity.

The Department has over 50 staff employed in research, of which two thirds are fully research funded. Research in the Department is supported by a Research Committee.

The major areas of research activity within the Department are:

  • biological anthropology
  • cell biology

Dr Justin Keogh Bond University Gold Coast, Queensland
" Weight loss in older adults benefits of exercise"

Dr Keogh's research focuses on understanding the acute stresses, and the chronic adaptations resulting from a range of physical activities. His research focuses on athletic populations and older adults, where both general and specific therapeutic physical activity may have differing effects and various motives and barriers to continual participation.
